GRWM + tips for incoming CS & IT students I'm Andie I'm an incoming second year computer science student at Mapua Makati and here are My TIPS for YOU if you're a freshman entering CS or IT one of the first thing i'd say is 1. don't expect it to be only coding there will be programming, yes but also, A LOT of • Problem-solving • Logic • group works • Math and moments where you'll feel like learning everything and that's okay and honestly at the start it can feel very overwhelming 2. DON'T PANIC if your first coding activity looks nothing like what you see online because in real life you run your code you stare at it you change one thing then suddenly, out of nowhere it works you'll also encounter a major subject where you think you're keeping up then a lesson hits, and you're just like which is happening what is it and believe me That is normal another thing 3. Don't compare your pace to others Some people already know how to code before college and some are completely new either way, everyone struggles in different parts what matters is if you keep going even when you don't get it right away if you feel like everyone else is smarter they're also struggling just quieter about it Also 4. A LOT of group projects a big part of your life here you'll meet people with different work habits, and you'll slowly that COMMUNICATION matters just as much as TECHNICAL SKILLS you'll also experience coding 5. Sleepless nights at 2 AM thinking "I'll just finish this quickly", and then suddenly it's 4:47 AM and you're still debugging the same error if I'm gonna be honest there will be times where you're gonna be stuck on a bug or an error for way too long one thing I wish I knew earlier is 5. It's okay to be confused for a while. so if you're an incoming freshman don't pressure yourself to be good immediately Patience Consistency and the willingness to figure things out step-by-step just show up, try again, and slowly it starts making sense You're not expected to know everything— you're expected to learn.
