wearing dresses still feels weird but in a good way :) I’ve always been a tomboy growing up and never wore feminine clothes. I felt awkward being a girl sometimes, I couldn’t relate to my peers who liked makeup and clothes. A couple years ago I even got a pixie cut because I felt frustrated by the constraints of patriarchy and the value of beauty as currency for women. But I realized that I might have been a tomboy as a girl because, even at that age, I could feel that the world didn’t respect us even if I didn’t have language for it yet. And I was subconsciously trying to distance myself from the very cool and fun experience of girlhood. Now I’ve realized that the people who wont respect you because you’re “girly” were never going to respect you anyway, even if you try to run away from it. My attempts to be taken more seriously or choices were still a reaction and product of patriarchy. If you’re a more of a tomboy and you’ve discovered you love dressing more androgynous and it feels like you that’s amazing! And same! But taking the time to deconstruct my style and why I choose things helped me unlock a whole new part of myself too! And I learned I actually like to wear skirts every now and then although it’s still new for me :) Being a girl can be confusing and there’s always a balance of who you’re doing things for, but centering yourself and allowing yourself to explore what you truly like and changing and discovering new parts of yourself is fun and a part of the journey! #tomboy #girlhood #beingagirliscool
