If you work with teenage girls that struggle with self-harm, this is for you. I'm Haley, I'm a therapist in Texas and I primarily work with kids and teens and this has become one of my favorite things to do with my girlies that are struggling with self-harm. Now let's profess this is not a cure for self-harm and it's not intended to beat one. It's just supposed to be something to help give clients space to make a different choice. Harm reduction, charm bracelets. So, all you need, all of it is in my Amazon for front, but you're going to I use gold cuz we like the gold. Gold chain, gold clasp and little hooks and a million different charms. I will show you kind of some. I've got little hearts and cherries and flowers and letters and symbols and quite literally anything you can think of. What we'll do is I will literally give them my big fat bucket of all the charms. And we're going to pick different charms that represent different things. One of the charms might represent something that makes them want to stay. Maybe something is a reminder of someone or something that they love. Something that represents hope, something that represents a future. Sometimes they're coping skills or representation of coping skills. Maybe something that represents a goal they're working towards or even something that just helps them remind that they've survived hard days before and they can keep it going. There is no rules. This charm bracelet is only supposed to signify that they can keep going. We build the bracelet together. Obviously, every charm has its own meaning and story. And while we're building this bracelet, we're talking about their self-harm and how things are going and what we have to do to make plans moving forward. And then encourage them to wear the bracelet and use it when urges are strong as a reminder of why they're going to make a different choice. Again, we aren't trying to stop self-harm. It is a reduction technique. Sometimes something even as small as a charm bracelet is just enough to make them realize in that moment they're not alone and they have a choice. So instead of just saying, remember to use your co-bing skills when you're having they literally have something that all of that for them in a way that they. So no, it's not just jewelry. It is a reminder of why they continue to fight. Let me know what questions you have.
