Starting July 1, 2026, there are students who usually receive the pellet grant who may no longer be able to under these new rules. The first change is to students who were able to get the pellet grant specifically because their income was low, but they still had significant assets. That is no longer the case, that loophole is now closed. So if you do have high assets, you will not be eligible for the pellet grant. If you have a student aid index higher than 14,790, which is double the amount of the pelgram, then you will not be eligible for the pelgram either. Thirdly, if you are getting your tuition covered by other non-federal sources, like grants and scholarships, and it is equal to the cost of your attendance, then you are no longer eligible for the pelgram. These rules are seeming to target specifically student athletes or students who are already on full red scholarship. Foreign income is now going to be included in the calculation of determining whether you are eligible for a pelgram. And lastly, the pelgram will now have more programs eligible for pel such as short-term career focused um training type programs, which is actually a good thing. There is a lot of changes to go through.
