So why do rich people hate bank accounts? Yogi used to think saving money was smart. Put it in the bank, watch it grow. Simple. Then Yogi found out what a savings account does to his money. Nothing. A standard UK savings account pays around 4% interest right now. Sounds decent. Until you realize inflation is eating away at the value of everything you own at the same time. Your money sits still, everything else gets more expensive. The bank takes it and lends it out to other people at 8, 10, 15% interest. They keep the difference. You get the scraps. But the real reason wealthy banks go deeper than that. Every penny of interest you earn in a savings account is taxable income. Higher rate taxpayers only get a 500 pound personal allowance before HMRC takes its cut. So you earn almost nothing, the bank profits off your money, and then the taxman slice off the little you did earn. Meanwhile, wealthy people take that same money and put it into assets that grow in value. Property that grows in value, stocks that compound year after year, businesses that generate income. Assets that the bank can then lend against tax-free. Yogi doesn't hate banks. He just refuses to be the one making money.
