When a car battery fails most people simply replace it. In Pakistan buying a new battery can be quite a challenge. Instead many drivers take their dead batteries to local workshops rebuilt for around $20, far cheaper than one. To begin the repair the mechanic removes the top cover and pulls out the internal six cell pack, usually darkened from oxidation. Rather than salvaging the old plates, he replaces them with newly made ones. These replacement plates are often handmade in small workshops, which keeps costs low.
