Today is the day. Andre. My firstborn. The one who made me a mother before I even knew how to be one. I was a teenager when I had him. Scared. Unprepared. Doing it alone in ways I didn’t even have the words for yet. And I looked at this tiny person and made him a silent promise — I will figure it out. For you. Because of you. And I did. Eighteen years later he is standing at the door of the United States Army with his whole chest out and I am standing here trying to hold mine together. He didn’t have a father in the home. He had me. Just me. Every school morning. Every consequence. Every lesson at the kitchen table. Every fishing trip. Every hard conversation. Every prayer before bed. Every moment I stayed when leaving would have been easier. Just me and God and look at the beautiful man he is becoming 🙌🏾🪖🫶🏾 #military #son #family
