How I Clean & Treat New Houseplants

This is how I clean and treat new houseplants step by step before I bring them into my home step by step. You can actually leave your houseplants in their nursery pots for quite a while, but I am so paranoid about bringing new pests into my home, so I always clean them right away. We're starting with the Heartleaf Philodendron first. I remove all the soil and then I wash all the roots. I want to take off as much of the old soil as I possibly can and check for pests. And then I spray castile soap water for a guide treating any pests that could be hiding in the roots. Next step is choosing a pot that is two inches bigger than the nursery pot that they came in. I use the chunky soil mix that contains orchid bark and perlite and potting soil. And then I repeat these steps with every single plant. Now I will say that my main goal when repotting is to keep as much of the foliage healthy as possible. I'm super careful with the leaves, I try not to rip any of them. I also try to be super careful with the roots while also making sure to get most of the soil out. For me, treating my plants before I bring them into my home is super important because I want to reduce the stress of bringing rips, spider mites or any other pests that could possibly be living in the plant. And then we have plants like this one, which this one is a Brazil Philodendron and it was kind of in rough shape, so I wanted to kind of trim her up and get rid of all of the old leaves before repotting her. When you treat your plants, it will reward you because I will tell you guys, this was about a week ago and my plants are already looking so much better and so much happier in their new environments. So this is what they look like now that they are all cleaned and then I take them outside and I spray neem oil. The reason I take them outside is because the neem oil does have a particular smell and you can find this anywhere pretty much at lowes, Home Depot or on Amazon. Neem oil is meant to prevent and treat any pests and then I wipe them down with these gloves I found on Amazon and then that's it. All of my plants are looking beautiful and ready to be in their new homes. Let me know if you guys want more videos like this.
