Thinking about transferring your home into a revocable trust? Here's what you need to do. First, fill out a new deed naming the trust as the owner of the property and remember to have it notarized. Number two, while trust documents are private and do not need to be filed with any court or public entity, I do suggest that you file them with your county clerk's office or superior court after that. Remember to file your trust affidavit so you can keep your homestead exemption. And let your mortgage company know that you transferred your mortgage to a trust. I would suggest that you contact your mortgage company first to determine whether or not it's gonna accelerate your loan payment. And lastly, don't forget to update your insurance policy naming the trust as an additional insured. If you fail to do that, they could actually deny any future claims because the home is in the trust name now, not yours.
