Why it worked
The video taps into a trending and controversial topic within the design community: the impact of AI on creative professions. By presenting different perspectives and engaging with public discourse on social media, it likely resonated with a broad audience interested in the future of design.
Summary
The video discusses a designer's decision to retire from design due to AI's capabilities, sparking debate about AI's role in creative fields. The speaker explores two theories for the designer's retirement: a potential product launch or AI's ability to replicate his style. The discussion touches on the impact of AI on designers, the concept of "taste" in AI, and the challenges faced by senior designers compared to younger ones adapting to new technologies.
Product placement
The video shows various tweets and social media posts related to AI and design, including a tweet from Gal Shir announcing his retirement from design, a tweet from Dylan Field commenting on the situation, and a tweet from Thais Castello Branco announcing the launch of "Taste Labs." It also shows examples of motion graphics and logos, and a promotional graphic for a "Dive Radio Show."

It's over. I'm quitting design.
A client of mine just created a logo with Fable 5, and the result left me speechless.
It understood the brand story, values, audience, strategy, and turned all of it into a smart, minimal symbol. A genuinely brilliant concept. The kind of idea that captures everything at once. Something I honestly don't think I would have come up with myself.
And it didn't just nail the idea. It executed the design pixel-perfectly.
So I raise the white flag.
My skepticism about AI's ability to do great design is officially gone.
There, I said it:
AI beat me at design.
I am retiring from design AI has done a job better than me a client showed him something haven't looked like but the reason that this has taken the internet by storm in design space is Gal Shir has like 100,000 X followers and that's not the important bit it's how he got them he is not a content creator never has been an engagement farmer pretty quiet person otherwise and just shares his work and just shares his work it's incredible it's he's a great brand designer his logo marks and all that is really good but one of the things that stands out out about Gal is he creates these motion graphic presentations of the brand and they they serve as their own brand vehicle too in film we call them a match cut and he's good at them and one of two things is happening one, one, it is possible that he's engagement farming because maybe Gaushere about to drop some tool for designers maybe their brand work appear in this match cut like him that would be an interesting idea probably not a great way of goodwill but the second thing that happening is that somebody took all of Gal Shir's match cut motion trained a skill like on it and it probably nailed it. If you've used Fable five, you give it these explicit but either a Lot of people are saying that it's it's an irresponsible post. That's ridiculous. He's not saying design is dead. Didn't say that. Um he just said that he's retiring he came across a a situation where AI did better than him. He is not saying you should leave design. He's not shoulding on anybody. And I think a lot of designers having such a hard time conflating this because a bunch of other industry people have jumped on and and talked about this. But there is an interesting conversation here. Because as much as we are sick word taste if this is true then the question about AI not to emulate a human's taste but actually evolving its taste that conversation's not going anywhere anytime soon and I'm the the belief that that's already capable now with the right that it's just inevitable that's my give give more of my on our Show this Thursday with Rid and what I'll say is this and I love Gal and this is not him but the kind of people excited about today designers designers who have the guts to stay curious because it's mostly us seniors who are having the hard time relearning unlearning and reinventing ourselves. Meanwhile, the younger cats and my teenagers are just crushing the souls of symbols and pixels and they How it's supposed to be done. And I think that that's a pretty cool thing. And if that's you, cheers.

I have been thinking about whether to comment on this. Not clear if Gal is serious, rage baiting, etc. Whatever the case, it has spread enough in the design community that I want to share some thoughts.
The psychological journey people go through with AI is quite fascinating to me. A new model launches, people think th Show more
