Men are almost twice as likely as women to have stocks and shares and I think part of the reason is that women are constantly sold consumption while men are often sold ownership. Is it lifestyle or marketing? When products, women selling to women online, they're not really selling the product, they're selling the identity around the product. Blank Street is not just matcha, it's the London clean girl lifestyle. Stanley cup is not just a water bottle, it's the wellness, always hydrated, Alo and Lululemon are not just gym clothes, they're selling Pilates, soft life, discipline and status. Buy what you like, but know why. And the issues that women are constantly being marketed with lifestyle upgrades, beauty products, aesthetics, microtrends. Meanwhile, the finance space is still heavily male coded. Men get pushed content around business, investing, property and ownership. While women get pushed content around looking better, feeling better, buying the aesthetic. Bad with money? Or sold the wrong dream? So maybe the issue are the modern marketing teaches women to consume before it teaches them to own. Building the life? Or just looking like it? Because the real question is not whether the matcha, the leggings, the bag or the water bottle are bad things, the real question is if these things help you build the life you want, or just help you look like it.
