New Inheritance Theft Schemes Exposed

There's a new type of probate fraud case that we're seeing or inheritance theft as some people call it. This is occurring when a person is getting older, they have assets and maybe they go into manage care, maybe they go into hospice, maybe they're going to some type of retirement home. And the people around them could be relatives, but sometimes not blood relatives. They could be associates or colleagues start to realize, look, this person is probably going to pass away at some point in the future. Another way of doing it is to manipulate the person to change their will or to create a trust. But this new scheme is when people look in advance, they see down the road and say, wait a minute, here's an opportunity for me to steal assets. What they have to do in order to make this work is to take and gas light and lie and manipulate all the other people around them. There are other relatives, maybe siblings, maybe children even. And pretend like this didn't happen, pretend like the assets didn't exist. Lie to them. Maybe keep them in the dark. A lot of times the person will keep other relatives away from this ancestor. They'll say know, don't come visit them in manage care. They're they're not well right now. They can't talk to people, right? They keep you away or they'll lie to you and say, they said they don't want to talk to you. Or they'll tell the ancestor, the older person, look, don't talk to Sally because she talks behind your back. They'll they'll they'll manipulate you.
