Two years ago, I had 2 under 2. If you're in it right now, here's what I'd tell you... 1. Keep your toddler's routine the same. Same nap time, same bedtime, same routines they can count on. Their whole world just changed. The rhythm of their day shouldn't. 2. They will both need you at the same time. If the baby's cry is a quick fix—a diaper, a paci- fix it. But when they both need you, it's okay to put your baby down somewhere safe and go to your toddler. Your baby won't remember. Your toddler is watching to see if they still come first sometimes. 3. Keep a basket that only comes out when you feed the baby. Special snacks, stickers, toys they never see otherwise. Feeding time becomes the part they look forward to instead of the part where mama disappears. 4. When the day is falling apart, go outside. The driveway counts. The mailbox counts. I never once regretted getting us out the door. 5. Some days, a good day is just: everyone's fed, everyone napped, ten minutes of fresh air. The laundry will still be there. This stage won't. It gets easier in inches, not all at once. Then one day, they're wading into a lake together, and you understand why everyone said the age gap you were scared of would become one of the best things you ever gave them.
