Top 3 TFSA (and how to avoid them) I. withdrawing money Government of Canada Canada Gouvernement du Canada The amount you withdraw will only be added back as available contribution room on January 1 if you take money out of your TFSA that contribution room doesn't reset until January 1st of next year 2026: -$3,000 Jan 1 2027: +$3,000 2. not investing the cash TFSA TAX-FREE SAVINGS ACCOUNT the TFSA is not a savings account it's just a tax free wrapper you actually have to buy something in it it could be a stock a bond an ETF whatever ETF An exchange-traded fund (ETF) is a type of pooled investment security that holds multiple underlying assets, rather than only cash. @investopedia as soon as you get paid transfer some money into your TFSA and then inside your TFSA you buy an investment like an ETF for example just don't leave it as cash 3. overcontributing TD TFSA TFSA money Wealthsimple TFSA but instead of doing a direct transfer to they withdrew the money and then redeposited the money 2026 TFSA dollar limit The TFSA dollar limit for 2026 is $7,000. that the new deposit counted as a contribution contribution room left and Canada Post was on strike and Canada Post six months later they got a letter from the CRA saying that they overcontributed and they have to pay penalties. Total CRA overcontribution fees: -$3,000 so please before Canada.ca Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) https://www.canada.ca > revenue-agency Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to check your contribution room if you're unsure just book a call and always request a direct transfer follow :) tag a friend who needs to see this before they mess up their TFSA
