His name is Fan Shisan, a creator in Chengdu with a physics and chemistry background who spent years building things straight out of anime. Flying sword swarms, a hoverboard made of blades, and a robot arm heavier than a pickup truck that crushed a car on camera. But his new project is on a completely different scale. He named the mech Jaeger after the giant robots in Pacific Rim. It doesn't think for itself. Fan wears a motion capture suit and the robot mirrors his body in real time, scaling every small human movement into massive mechanical force. He moves his arm, 66,000 pounds moves with him. Building machines like this used to take a defense budget and a government contract. Fan is funding it with a YouTube channel which makes his audience the investor. And Unitree just started selling a rideable mech for six hundred fifty thousand dollars. Giant robots are quietly becoming a consumer category.
