Satya Nadella left Sun Microsystems, where he served on the technology staff, and joined Microsoft in 1992. A year later, in 1993, he featured in a Microsoft DevCast, a satellite broadcast where staff demonstrated Windows and Office tools, back when there was no YouTube or livestreaming to carry it. Then a technical marketing manager in the Windows NT division, Nadella used his segment to show developers how to pair Excel with Visual Basic to build business applications driven by real-world data. Across the following two decades he ran several of Microsoft’s largest divisions, spanning cloud computing and enterprise software. His work on Azure repositioned the company for the future, and in 2014 he became its CEO.
