Ilia Malinin shares the lore behind his signature “raspberry twist”

One of the things that you've come up with the name with is the raspberry twist. For those that don't know, can you explain what the raspberry twist is? Okay, so there is a move that is pretty common in parkour and tricking and ice skating, it's called the butterfly. So what I did was I went on the ice, I did a butterfly and I added a twist into it. Wait, okay, scale back. What's the butterfly? So it is just, it's kind of a variation of an aerial and a cartwheel, but you're a little more sideways to the ground as opposed to being like vertically upside down. So what I did, I took the butterfly and I added a twist to it. And since I'm one of the only skaters who was doing it at the time, I decided to name it to name it under my name. And if you didn't know, raspberry in Russian means Malinin. So that's why it's called the raspberry twist.
