BookTok's current obsession vs og BookTok's obsessions

Since BookTok's biggest obsession right now is making blind accusations against large creators saying that they don't actually read the stuff they're talking about. Let's throw back to 2021, 2022 BookTok and everything we were obsessed with then that I still think is worth to read today. Starting with My Sister, The Serial Killer. This was all over BookTok back in the day. Like imagine your little sister just casually killing off every man she becomes involved with. And she's always calling you up to help her bury the bodies. But then she sets her sights out on a man you have your eyes on. 1000% still worth the read. I Who Have Never Known Men is not for people who want a very conclusive ending. If you can't handle open-endedness, you're not gonna enjoy this. But everyone else, you're gonna love this. This is a short dystopian read with women who are trapped underground, living in this cage with no real recollection of how they got there. But as we see them venture out of this cage, rather than getting any answers for how or why they were there, they're just given more questions. Also, I did just pick up Jacqueline Harpman's newest translation that just came out and I'm very eager to read it. My Year of Rest and Relaxation has come up a lot in this conversation about creators not actually reading their books because apparently if you like this book, you're absolutely lying. I think this was the first book that really opened my eyes to literary fiction. I love a mundane, boring story with beautiful writing and weird characters and weird characters. And this book perfectly scratches that itch. And while you're at it, go pick up Blanca Luna by Tessa Machef because that is her best work. Crying in H Mart is the perfect way to dip your toes into non-fiction because this is such a well-executed story. And yes, this is from the lead singer of Japanese Breakfast. However, this story isn't necessarily about the band. It's really about her mother's slow passing from aggressive cancer, recollecting on tender moments and the things in her current day that bring her back to the past. Such a beautiful story.
