One of the most common questions on my junk journal videos is how do you decide where to put everything? Do you plan ahead of time or do you just go with the flow? Today I'm gonna take you on a journey through my creative process so you can see how I make a junk journal spread from start to finish. STEP 1 gather Today I'm making a spread of my trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have a bunch of these little photo albums that I get from thrift stores and I organize all my junk in these so that it's very easy for me to go back and find what I need for each spread. So once I've collected all my junk, I then go through and print out some photos. I also bought these sticker packs on my trip and so I'm definitely gonna try to use some of these in the spread as well. STEP 2 organize by style Looking at the junk I have it organized, I noticed that there's a lot of black and white, but then there's also some pastel colors as well. So I wanna make sure that I balance these throughout the spread. STEP 3 arrange with balance I'm definitely going to use this bag, but I know that I'm not gonna want the QR code to show, so I'll probably do something like this. Then I'm thinking I'll put this, cause it does have some black in it, but it's got that pastel on the outside in this corner. These two items are from the same coffee shop. And so they have a very similar color scheme, so I'm gonna wanna balance them out. I'm thinking I'll do this down here and this down here. Okay. Now I have this photo strip. Think if I put this here and perhaps cut a little bit off, I won't cover up too much of this. Okay. I definitely want this receipt to be somewhere in here. I'm sure that when I go in to use it, I will, you know, crinkle it and sort of arrange it in a different way. It won't just be straight. So I'm just gonna lay it where I might want it to go. Two of these are really dark, okay. I put the darker ones on this side to kind of help balance out this really dark bag. And then put the lighter one on this side to balance out the light things we have going on here. I bought a pair of earrings from a thrift store that benefits pet shelters. And look how cute this little thing is that they have the earrings hanging on. I think because of the black bag, I wanna put this maybe in this corner to help balance out more of that black. I think I'm gonna use these two, cause I really like the turquoise and red that they bring in. I feel like the turquoise ties in some of this coffee shop packaging. And there is some red in some of these photos, so I think it'll work. Well, I'm honestly not feeling confident in anywhere that I'm putting these right now, so I'm just gonna place some and figure it out later. Okay. My last step is trying to fill in any blank spaces. So looking around, I do see some empty white spaces. So I always like to have some background paper ready just in case. I went through all my mail club scraps and found some papers that I thought matched. I got this one from the Opal Bones post and I really like that it ties in some of that red so that the red isn't so stand alone. In the end, I won't decide until I actually put the spread together. Let's do a little transition and see how this spread turns out.
