Stretches for hip tightness/pain in dogs
These are some of the stretches we do to help with Sally's hip dysplasia.
These stretches are great for any dog that has pain or tightness in their hips.
You'll wanna start with a relaxed dog that is laying on their side.
The first stretch we're gonna do is in and outs.
Very gently, bring your dogs leg all the way in and then stretch it all the way out.
make sure to listen to your dogs body and don't stretch past the point of resistance.
The next exercise we're doing is clam shells.
Gently open and close your dogs leg, again not going past the point of resistance.
I'm including this next clip to show what it looks like when a dog is telling you these stretches might be uncomfortable.
Sally has hip dysplasia and her level of pain varies day by day so it's really important that
-Licking her lips
-Pulling her leg away from me
-Looking at me with whale eyes
-Touching where it hurts with her nose
I look out for these cues.
I don't do that anymore.
The last stretch we're gonna do is diagonal in and outs.
Bring your dog's leg in a diagonal motion and then stretch your dog's leg back in a diagonal motion.
Don't forget to repeat on the other side!
If you try these stretches with your dog, let me know how it goes!
Thank you
