3 TIPS TO START CROCHETING

Here are 3 tips I would give to somebody who wants to start crocheting. For the longest time, I wanted to learn how to crochet, but I didn't have anybody in my life to teach me how to crochet, so I was a little bit lost. I started dating my boyfriend and his mom actually did teach me how to crochet, but I don't think you need that in order to get started. So that brings me to my first tip. I definitely recommend going on YouTube and getting a little bit more familiar with the different stitches. YouTube is my best friend for crocheting. There's hundreds of patterns out there and a lot of them are very in-depth. They will teach you all the different stitches and all the other things. So definitely recommend looking at a basic video first and then picking a project that you actually want to do because I think that incentivizes me to actually get going. It's all well and good to just practice, but I think when you actually make something, that's the best practice. So find like a headband tutorial or a little stuffy that you want to make. Wubbles are great as well. So that's tip number one. Tip number two, I would definitely recommend grabbing a starter kit. It is so easy to just grab something on TikTok shop. Actually, I have one linked down below. You don't need it, but it is easier to know like what hooks to get. I would definitely recommend getting a variety from like 2 millimeter hook to like 6 millimeter hook. I think a lot of the ones that you'll be using are like 4 to 5 millimeter and yarn needles are kind of a bonus. I don't use yarn needles as much as I thought I would, but it's kind of just nice to have in your little tool bag. So of course, materials, tip number two. Tip number three, start a Pinterest board of all the things that you want to crochet. I remember when I started crocheting, I saved a bunch of crochet shorts to my Pinterest board and I was like, I'm gonna start making them. But I definitely recommend starting with some headbands, especially if you're interested in wearables. There's a lot of small things you can start making. The more experience you have before starting a larger project like that will be so good for you because there's a lot of things to know with crochet, but there's not that much to know. So those little projects will give you the perfect fundamentals. So when you do want to do a base ball jersey, you know exactly what people are talking about. Like I said, YouTube is your best friend. You do not need to buy crazy patterns to be a good crocheter. I think I've only ever bought like three patterns in my life. And no hate to anyone who creates or buys patterns, I just don't feel like I need them because there is so much out there for free. So those are my tips.
