This 14-Year Old’s Persistence Saved A Life

This 14-year-old was riding his bike through 103 degree Arizona heat when he passed an elderly woman and slammed on his brakes. And although she calmly insisted walking home, the boy looked around and realized something that made his stomach drop. In June of 2026, a teenager named Royal Cothron was out riding in Gilbert, Arizona, wearing camera glasses that recorded everything he saw. He spotted 75-year-old Theresa Morgan struggling down an isolated road, the triple digit sun beating down on her with shopping bags in her hands. Something felt wrong, so Royal stopped and gently asked the stranger where she was headed. When she answered that she was walking home, Royal pointed out the problem, no houses or apartments around them. You see, Theresa had recently been diagnosed with dementia, and after a simple grocery trip, she had become disoriented and wandered miles from her home. So instead of riding off, Royal guided her into the shade and patiently worked with her until she remembered her son's phone number. He called the number himself, and her son Jeff arrived on scene, arriving just before the fire department and paramedics. Jeff says that outcome could have been tragic, and a firefighter admitted things would have been much, much worse if the boy had kept riding. Royal's camera glasses captured the entire rescue, and the humble teen simply said she looked like something was wrong, so he started talking to her. And for slamming on his brakes that afternoon, Royal is now being honored by the Gilbert Fire Department and the Air National Guard.
