This 19-year-old walked into a courthouse and personally filed criminal charges against the woman living in the 2.3 million dollar mansion next door. But although the woman inside seemed to know a legal loophole this teenager had just found the one she didn't. In the summer of 2025, a bank owned 7,500 square foot home in Bethesda, Maryland sat empty until neighbors say a stranger simply moved in. That stranger Tamieka Goode, a self-described litigation coach, posted TikTok videos with the mansion right behind her. Ian Chen, the college student spotted what looked like a break-in and called the police. But although officers showed up, they just knocked on the door, got no answer, and drove away. So Chen dug into Maryland law, discovered ordinary citizens can file criminal charges and charged Goode with trespassing and burglary. A nine month legal war followed, Goode repeatedly missed her own hearings while the neighborhood watched in fear. In January of 2026, she was convicted on every count, sentenced to 90 days, the judge told by the judge some demented thoughts squatting. But although the case seemed over, a $5,000 bond 12 days later, and cameras caught her strolling right back into the mansion within hours. It took one more arrest and an overnight removal in February before the house was finally empty. And Chen, who says it was his civic duty to do the right thing, is now at the state capital demanding Maryland change its laws.
