Residents of Southaven, Mississippi have filed a class action lawsuit against Elon Musk’s xAI and SpaceX, alleging that gas turbines powering the company’s data center and power plant produce near constant noise, vibrations, and other nuisance level harms. The suit, filed by residents Jason Haley, Preston Herrington, and Taylor Logsdon in federal court in the Northern District of Mississippi, describes a combination of high pitched squealing, engine roaring, and low frequency rumbling that reaches nearby homes. Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite has acknowledged the noise but said the company has complied with requests to lessen it, citing recent readings in the 50 decibel range. Residents dispute that assessment and say the disruption has caused lost sleep, migraines, and anxiety. A separate lawsuit filed by the NAACP and the Southern Environmental Law Center challenges the plant’s air permits, alleging dozens of unpermitted gas turbines violate the Clean Air Act. xAI has built several berms around the site in an effort to reduce the noise. #DataCenters #xAI #Mississippi
