1929 Rolldor Self-Balancing Asher

I saw this video of an ashtray from 1929 and to me, it represents a period of history. You may not have thought a lot about. I don't think you understand how this era felt like they were living in. Let's say you're 40 in 1929. That means you grew up in electricity was still pretty rare. When you are 13 years old, you open the newspaper and you read about man's first flight. How cool is that? 13 years later, from one flight to bombs being dropped on your head from planes. As a kid, you didn't even know these things were possible. And now you are hiding from them from the war. You come from the war and all of a sudden electricity is getting really popular. Electric lights are everywhere and so are cars. Movies are becoming more popular and so is the radio. Your father fought in the Civil War. You have a little machine that can get information wirelessly from across the city, across the country, and you know, by proxy across the world. You're now in your 30s and afford a telephone in your own house. You get on a train to go somewhere and you need an ashtray and someone rolls one over to you. You don't think anything of it because everything around you is getting better at an insanely fast pace. You assume the future is here. Of course, the Great Depression and World War 2 are right around the corner. Ugly, but at 55 years old, you see the first atomic bomb drop. Men can now split atoms. When you are 79 years old, you watch a video of us landing on the moon. When you were a kid, no one had flown in the sky and you lived to see someone land on the moon. It is the most change in a single lifetime that a human being has seen, probably in all of human history.
