Not every side hustle does well when the economy gets bad. The first one to fall will probably be food delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats. The money gets tight, people will have no option but to cook at home more often. Remember our last few once in a lifetime economic crisis? You probably remember restaurants closing left and right. When people get laid off, this is usually the first place they look to make a quick buck. The number of drivers will probably increase as the orders decrease. You're competing with more people for less money. Uber and Lyft are in the same category too. Travel decreases when money gets tight. Both recreational travel and business travel. Those Airbnbs that have just been printing money for the past couple years are probably also on a downswing. Luxury photography is probably not going to do well. Weddings get smaller and this is another area where people try to dip their toes in, go from the shackles of corporate life. If you're trying to get married during an economic crisis, you're probably going to ask a family member or friend you can find that has a DSLR if they wanna make a couple extra hundo instead of signing a three thousand dollar contract with a professional. Other luxury personal services like fitness coaching, personal shopping, vacation planning, pet sitting, maid services could all decrease because regular people are going to drop those expenses first. No one is asking themselves if they'd rather pay their light bill or another boxing class. There's no contest there. Let me know what other dominos you think are going to fall.
