10 Worst businesses to start today. So I'm going to start with the worst of the worst or the best of the worst. No. 11, cleaning companies. Presidential cleaning, office cleaning, I don't care what it is. It's just a horrible business, especially with Covid, you know, a lot of office vacancies. It's just not a good business. No. 10 is daycare. Yes, even though it's our precious little ones, daycare is not a great business because of the huge liability. If something goes wrong, if you lose a kid, and your kid to adult ratio is not conducive to a great profit, not when you compare it with other businesses. No. 9 is car rental. Again, you need a huge amount of capital to have a bunch of cars you can rent. Unless you have a location at the airport, you're not going to make a ton of money. You have to pick up clients, clients are cranky. It's not a great business. No. 8 is travel agency. With, you know, Kayak and these sites that you can search yourself, it doesn't take that much work to have your assistant or someone do your travel itinerary. Travel agents can't get you deals on airfare anyways. No. 7 is accounting and tax preparation. I know what I said before, you know, accounting can be very profitable, but most accounting companies never design branding and differentiation. They never really help their clients. They're, in fact, most of them rip off their clients because they provide the minimum service and they do tax preparation, that's it. They don't advise in terms of how to reduce taxes or how to eliminate tax. No. 6 is self storage. Again, self storage is not really a business. It's more of a real estate venture and again requires a huge amount of capital. So when you look at capital investment in terms of return on capital, it's not a good business. No. 5 is locksmith. Locksmith, because it's under roughly $500 the average sale and a lot of travel time, and you need inventory. It's not a good business. No. 4 is pest control. Because again, the average sale is about $80 or $90, and you have to travel sometimes quite a distance to make $90. Come on, it's ridiculous. No. 3 is car dealers. Car dealers is again an ego business. It's not a real business. It's an ego business. You want to sell Lamborghinis and Fords and GM products, and you need $12 to $20 million to have a floor plan or cars on the lot so you can sell three or four or five a day and make tiny little margins. If you were to invest that $20 million into another business like painting, bookkeeping, or anything else where you need $50,000 to create a huge profit as opposed to huge capital to make a low profit, so car detailing is again an ego business. No. 2 is laundromats. You know, there's a video floating out there where someone says laundromats are great for laundry money. He even said this, but most people never hear the second part. You only hear laundromats are profitable. And of course, No. 1 is restaurants. Who the hell is still thinking about buying restaurants or investing in restaurants? I mean, you hear of restaurants investing $500,000 or even $1 million into a restaurant, then a couple years later they're selling the restaurant for $198,000. Yes, that is the average. That is an actual statistic. People sell restaurants at $198,000. And there's a lot of sites where you can buy these businesses, you know, gas stations and laundromats and convenience stores, and these are just horrible fish and chips places where you're working around the clock and you have no quality of life. You know, that's just awful businesses. What business did I miss? And would love to hear your questions, comments below. What business are you thinking of starting? Take care.
