Things You Don’t Know About Life With a Prosthetic. Most people see the finished product—a prosthetic leg, a smile, someone walking again—and assume the hard part is over. The truth is, life after limb loss is full of things most people never see. Some people experience pain in a limb that no longer exists. A new prosthesis shouldn’t leave you with wounds, and with the right fit, you should be able to wear it all day. Walking takes significantly more energy than most people realize. Insurance can be frustrating, but the right prosthetic team can make a world of difference by fighting for the technology you need. And while prosthetic technology is advancing faster than ever, access to those innovations still isn’t equal for everyone. I’ve spent 24 years living life as an amputee, and one thing I’ve learned is this: Being an amputee isn’t about what you lost. It’s about learning to adapt, refusing to quit, and finding people who won’t stop fighting for you. My hope is that this series helps answer questions, break down misconceptions, and gives someone facing limb loss a little more confidence about what’s possible. If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover next, leave it in the comments. I’d love to make this a resource for our entire limb loss community. 💙🦿 #Prosthetics #Amputee #LimbLoss #LifeAfterLimbLoss #ProstheticLeg @stephanie.eierdam @Ottobock @Evolve Prosthetics
