Hook

The relationship between an African dad and his sons is typically always an emotional rollercoaster. I feel like all of us African sons, damn near live the exact same lives, especially when it comes to our relationship with our pops. Like when we were young, one of your earliest memories will be your dad being like your best friend. Like when you were young boy, young, I remember sitting on my pops lap, bro, I remember him telling me stories and stuff. I remember just being a young child and being treated like I'm a child. Then I hit a certain age, like 10, 12 years old, bro starts treating me like a grown man. I'm talking about like if he sees me watching cartoons, SpongeBob, he damn near gonna whip out his belt, start beating me like, "Go do your homework, go do your chores, what's wrong with you?" TV TV man, literally. So it goes from like best friend to like, where's enemy? But then when you hit like 18, 19, 20, he sees you working, he sees you know, excelling in school, just becoming a man, growing into your masculinity. He starts to respect you, and he starts to love you, and he becomes your best friend again.
