Right now, your phone is drawing about 1 watt to play this. A light bulb, 8 watts. A laptop, 30. The average European home, 400 watts around the clock. A kettle, 2,000. The fastest car charger on Earth, 1,000,000 watts. One offshore wind turbine, 15,000,000. One nuclear reactor, 1,000,000,000 watts. All of Greater Paris averaged around the clock, 7.5 billion. This week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia is in talks to guarantee $250 billion for OpenAI to lease one data center campus on the site of an old uranium plant in southern Ohio. Its planned capacity, 10,000,000,000 watts. That is 10 nuclear reactors, more than all of Greater Paris. A tenth of France at its all-time peak, or every phone on Earth watching this at once. With the chips inside, the total could pass half a trillion dollars. Nothing is signed. These are talks reported by one newspaper. Nvidia, OpenAI, and the US government aren't commenting. The whole thing could still fall apart. For now, it is 10,000,000,000 watts on paper. The first 800,000,000 arrive in 2028. And that little square on your screen, that is your phone again. 1 watt still playing this.
