I don’t regret becoming a mum. I regret that nobody prepared me for what motherhood would actually ask of me. I was told about the love. I wasn’t told about the invisible labour. The mental load. The identity shift. The loneliness. The expectation that I’d recover while becoming the default parent overnight. This isn’t about blaming dads or saying every family looks the same. It’s about questioning why so much of the responsibility is still assumed to fall on mothers and why we don’t prepare men to become equal partners and parents from day one. We spend months preparing women for birth. But how often do we prepare men for the mental load, the emotional labour, the invisible work, and what it truly means to be an equal parent? Motherhood shouldn’t mean carrying a family alone. Parenthood should be a partnership. We celebrate the baby. Now it’s time we start preparing both parents for everything that comes after. 🤍 What do you wish someone had told you before becoming a parent? #parenthood #struggle #motherhoodunplugged #motherhood #motherhoodunfiltered
