Japanese film recs that leave you with a sense of longing. I love Japanese films. So I'm going to recommend some Japanese films that left me with a sense of longing after watching them. The first film is Still Walking directed by Hirokazu Koreeda. Still Walking is definitely one of my favorite Japanese films director. He just captures life in such a unique and remarkable way that I just really enjoy. His films, I love watching his films. I love how the food and the gatherings at the table became a symbol and tradition in this film. April Story (1998) directed by Shunji Iwai. I love watching this film specifically in the spring because it's just such a spring film. This film also reminds me that life is changing, but not always because of big things, but because of your need and your want to want to start over, to start over in a new life. Life is changing from those simple things as well. Mio on the Shore (2019) directed by Ryutaro Hamakawa. Mio on the Shore is another unique film that just left me with a huge sense of longing. This film explores loneliness. There's this certain beauty that this film has, a quiet, slow pacing, but it also has this feeling that every day moment can carry so much beauty too. Typhoon Club (1986) directed by Shinji Somai. I love how this film explores the act between the two, the actual physical storm, the typhoon, and the emotional storm of adolescence. This film showed that that typhoon was not just a physical storm, but also an emotional language of what happens in the world and what happens through adolescence. The last film I'll recommend today is The Mourning Forest (2007) directed by Naomi Kawase. This film encapsulates grief and in such a unique way. Following through grief, rather than trying to simply kind of get over it. I remember, I remember who mattered most in your life. How beautiful it is to live. A reminder that you shouldn't take life for granted. I really love this film. It does a really great job at showing grief. I always like reaching out and exploring new films and different countries that are so different than mine. And I think it's so unique how film directors from different parts of the world tell stories. So if you guys want to check out these films, feel free to.
