Federal judge declines to reinstate Muslim educator as Fort Worth ISD principal A federal judge has declined to order Fort Worth ISD to reinstate Shayma Alzubi as principal of Western Hills High School. Matthew Sgroi Education reporter U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman issued the decision Tuesday. He found that Alzubi's reassignment, followed by the district's offer of a higher-paying position, did not harm her employment. Fort Worth ISD reassigned Alzubi after social media posts she made drew online backlash and threats. In his opinion, Pittman wrote that Alzubi had not been made a scapegoat or deprived of her freedom of speech, but he said the public response to her posts created safety concerns, not only for Alzubi, but also for Western Hills employees and students. The district later issued Alzubi a district-level position paying $130,000, nearly $10,000 more than the Western Hills principal job. The judge also questioned whether continuing the legal fight was a worthwhile use of either Alzubi's or the district's resources.
