I never thought I’d be grieving a milestone I haven’t even reached yet. It’s hard accepting that I won’t be standing beside my batchmates during our hard hatting and pinning ceremony this 3rd year. We all started from the same classroom, survived the same sleepless nights, impossible problem sets, failed quizzes, and endless deadlines. But engineering has a way of changing your timeline. It’s honestly frustrating how one prerequisite can create a domino effect. One subject turned into 10+ delayed units. One subject changed my entire curriculum, my year standing, my hard hatting, and eventually my graduation timeline. It’s crazy how everything you’ve planned for years can change because of one subject. People always say, “Delayed lang ‘yan.” I know they mean well, and I know being delayed doesn’t define me. But they’re not the ones watching their friends move forward while they stay behind to retake a subject that unlocked almost everything else. They’re not the ones opening the curriculum over and over, trying to figure out if there’s another way, hoping they missed something. Engineering isn’t just difficult because of the calculations. It’s difficult because it teaches you that hard work doesn’t always guarantee you’ll stay on the same timeline as everyone else. I know I’ll still become an engineer someday. I haven’t given up on that dream. But right now, I’m allowing myself to be sad about the milestones I’ll have to watch from the sidelines. To every engineering student whose timeline changed because of a prerequisite, who feels left behind, or who’s quietly wondering when they’ll finally catch up, I hope we remember that we’re still moving forward, even if it doesn’t feel like it. Someday, it’ll be our time. Padayon, Future Engrs. 👷🏻♀️🍀 #fyp #engineering #bsce #civilengineering
