Moral of the story here is to never underestimate a man that has a fucking Stegosaurus skeleton in his house. RIP Leopold So who is the billionaire who just walked away with most of Leopold Aschenbrenner's stock portfolio? Ken started trading while he was a student at Harvard. He reportedly installed equipment in his dorm so he could receive financial data quickly. He later founded Citadel in 1990, but here's something people constantly confused. Citadel and Citadel Securities are connected to Ken but are completely different businesses. Citadel is the hedge fund, it manages money and makes investments. Citadel Securities is the market maker, it helps execute an enormous amount of trading happening across stocks and options. So Ken doesn't just invest within the financial system. His businesses operate near the plumbing of the system itself. When other funds get into trouble, Citadel has a history of being positioned to purchase assets while everyone else is trying to escape. Even Citadel nearly collapsed during the 2008 financial crisis, but Ken survived and turned the entire company to an even more powerful operation. But other than being Wall Street's APEX, Ken has a very eccentric character. He has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on single paintings. His collections include artists like Basquiat, Pollock and de Kooning. Personally not a fan. Pollock is alright, of a Rembrandt, Degas kind of gal. Let's not forget about the Stegosaurus. He moved Citadel from Chicago to Miami, became deeply involved in the city's cultural and political world and now exists between hedge fund manager and financial emperor.
