Is it a Good Idea to use a Laptop while Plugged in? Well, the answer is most definitely yes, but there are some details you might want to know. First, when your laptop's battery is fully charged, it won't keep putting more charge into the battery. Instead, the laptop stops the charging process and starts using the power adapter as the main source of power. So it isn't drawing from the battery at all. But here's the catch. Laptop batteries are very sensitive to heat. Even if the laptop isn't pulling any charge, the heat generated by the machine can still degrade the battery's lifespan. The solution is to try not to let the machine overheat. On top of that, laptop batteries also don't want to sit maxed out at 100% all day long. That's why if you're using your laptop plugged in most of the time, you should consider setting the maximum charging capacity to 80 or 90%. This helps a lot with battery life over time. So, using your laptop plugged in is actually better than running it on battery.
