Ham and cheese pinwheels - one of the easiest, most loved meals in our house and an absolute staple for our family. Perfect for lunch boxes, snack time, after school when everyone's hungry, or even a quick dinner when things get chaotic and you need something on the table fast. The best part? They reheat beautifully. I can make a big batch at the beginning of the week, store them in the fridge, and pull them out whenever we need them. Just warm them up and they taste fresh every single time - soft, flaky, cheesy, and so delicious that my kids request them constantly. This is the kind of recipe that makes feeding your family simple and stress-free. No complicated steps. No fancy ingredients. Just a straightforward meal that works every time and that your kids will actually get excited about eating. Ham & Cheese Pinwheels Makes: 12 pinwheels Total time: 3 hours Ingredients: For the Dough: * ¾ cup milk * 1 Tbsp active dry yeast * ¼ cup warm water * ¼ cup sugar * 1 tsp salt * ¼ cup salted butter, softened * 1 egg * 3 cups all-purpose flour For the filling: * 1½ cups shredded Swiss cheese * ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese * 6 oz sliced ham * 3 Tbsp salted butter, melted Directions: 1. Heat milk and let cool to lukewarm. 2. In a large bowl, add warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit covered for 5-10 minutes until yeast is active and bubbly. 3. Stir in egg, butter, salt, and warm milk. Add flour and knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth. 4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, approximately 1 hour. 5. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 6. Punch dough down and roll into a 12x16 inch rectangle on a floured surface. 7. Sprinkle Swiss cheese, Parmesan, and chopped ham evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around all edges. Press down gently to help toppings adhere. 8. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into 12 strips (about 1 inch wide each). 9. Roll each strip tightly from one end to the other, forming a spiral. 10. Place pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. 11. Cover and let rise another 30-45 minutes until nice and puffy. 12. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and cheese is bubbly. 13. Brush with melted butter while still warm. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. #kidsnacks #homemaderecipe #mealprep #madefromscratch #lifeofahomemaker
