Brunello Cucinelli launched an AI company that Salesforce just invested in. Honestly, I feel like I'm playing Mad Libs whenever I read headlines these days. But I actually have some thoughts. For context, Cucinelli actually has been very interested in human centric AI since 2013. Just like the brand's clothes, instead of using an off-the-shelf model, they launched their own AI research lab in 2021 that focuses on tech and human centered experiences. The first project was obviously e-commerce. Callimacus, which is this AI powered e-commerce experience for fashion, of clicking. You interact, chat to what you're looking for. Luxury retail seems irreversibly impacted by the digital age. There's no barrier to you can window shop, you can buy second hand, you can compare price. You can't feel the physical quality differences. Most importantly, people who were never the target audience are now consuming and commenting on the brand's price products, including me, who's speaking right now. So, e-commerce is the antithesis of luxury retail. It pushes away the actual paying customer. I went on the website and I honestly didn't know what to do because I wasn't looking for anything. And there's nothing to scroll. And there's nothing to scroll. I think this like, kind of confusing user experience is actually the point. It's meant to create a little bit of mystery and cloak some of their products and what they're building. So that there's a little bit more friction to the consumption. It's funny to think of the AI interface to create more friction. But the most confusing part of this entire deal for me is Salesforce. Calls Salesforce the luxury of consumer services, which if you've ever used Salesforce, I don't think that's explainable. They could be a go-to market partner about productizing and it could be to learn from Salesforce's enterprise sales cycles. This is a lot of rambling and a lot of thought. I'm curious what you think.
