Is Kylie Jenner the solution to AI's hardware problem? Recently Meta launched its first in-house smart glasses. But on top of tapping Kylie for their campaign, they brought her in as a co-designer. She customized this pair of glasses with specific features for her audience such as embedding her own voice into Meta's AI assistant along with her iconic "Rise and shiiine". But why would Meta tap Kylie? You ask, Kylie answers. Meta's glasses are currently the most popular on the market, estimated to make up more than 80% of all AI or smart glasses sales, as the company was the first major tech player to launch such a product in recent years. And the people who were going to buy smart glasses have already done so. The market they already dominated. So their play for them was to go after an audience that never considered AI hardware at all. And considering Kylie's fame, Meta beat its competitors to the punch. Snapchat launched specs at prices that are around $2,000. Apple teased Apple Glasses not too long ago. And Google announced working with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster on smart glasses which coincidentally look a lot like Kylie's Meta glasses. AI hardware has long been the territory of tech enthusiasts and that market has a ceiling. So the future of this market lies within the consumer who chooses a product because it fits into who they already are, rather than its utility. So is fashion the barrier to entry in AI hardware or something else?
