Iran has just officially dropped a list of six non-negotiable demands to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, holding 20% of the world's oil hostage. From demanding a full US military withdrawal to complete financial compensation for damages, Iran is refusing to open the waterway until Washington caves. Here is the exact list of conditions Tehran has placed on the table. First, Iran must permanently end all threats and change its regional behavior. Second, all kinetic operations against Iran and its regional allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq must stop immediately. Third, the US must completely withdraw its military presence from the area and lift its naval blockade from the area. Fourth, Washington must pay full wartime damages. Fifth, all economic sanctions must be erased and sixth, every single dollar of frozen Iranian assets must be unblocked unconditionally. Tehran isn't just speaking through diplomats, they are enforcing this stance at sea. Just as these demands were announced, an Iranian airborne deterrent targeted a commercial vessel operated by the UAE's state-owned oil company, Adnoc, right inside the strait. While the vessel survived the kinetic action without being neutralized, it sent a brutal signal to global shipping. Controlling this narrow choke point is Iran's ultimate leverage, but letting them dictate the rules of passage is a massive red line for Washington. Oman is currently mediating behind closed doors to broker a temporary traffic arrangement. Iranian leadership signals some optimism about reaching a deal, but the gap between both sides is massive. Washington has firmly stated they need to see real behavioral changes, not just demands, before clearing underwater hardware or easing pressure. Accepting all six conditions would mean a complete geopolitical surrender for the US, which top defense officials say is simply off the table. Iran is betting everything on using the world's most critical energy transit route as leverage. But every piece of hardware fired at a commercial ship pushes the region closer to a full-blown global clash. Do you think Washington will compromise on any of these six demands or will the strait stay locked down? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
