RA vs college parents

When I was an RA we had to work freshman move-in and one of my favorite stories is I'm sitting at the desk minding my own business, a parent comes up to me and she's like, hey, so how does dry cleaning work here? And I was kind of like, what do you mean? And she was like, oh, when when my child's clothes are dirty, like do they drop them off somewhere, do you come and pick them up from their dorm? And I was like, well, there's a dry cleaner in the college town, yeah. Um, we just have washer dryers though. They don't even work half the time. But your student has to do their own laundry. And she was so genuinely appalled by this. And that was the moment that I realized exactly why my residents acted like they did. Like it's not their fault. They were just raised by somebody like that.
