If you're looking for a cozy & relaxing mountain getaway where you can truly unwind and disconnect, let me tell you about one of my favorite places on earth that is just under two hours from Greenville, South Carolina. I've been to Cataloochee Ranch three times now and it's one of those places where time just slows down. I went last week with our girlfriends and I was so excited to find that they've added a brand new pool overlooking the mountains. So of course, we lazed the afternoon away and enjoyed one of the wood fired pizzas from the restaurant. This time we stayed in the newer cabins with not one soaking tub, but two, one inside and one out on the porch. And the views here are spectacular no matter where you stay or what the weather is doing. One evening we simply just sat and watched the clouds drift between the mountains. On a rainy day, we took watercolor class and made our own little mountain keepsakes and then spent the afternoon cozying up with a book by the fireplace while my friend tried her hand out at one of the needlepoint kits from the mercantile. Horseback riding here is one of my favorite things to do, so one morning we did an hour-long trail ride through the mountains and the fresh air, the scenery, and the leisurely pace, I genuinely couldn't stop smiling. Now, let's talk about the food because I can confidently say that Cataloochee nails it every time. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Switchback and every meal felt like a treat from pecan waffles with a view and house-made focaccia paired with a sunset to a perfectly cooked filet, we're still dreaming about. And desserts we couldn't help but order. We genuinely loved every bite. But honestly, Cataloochee wouldn't feel quite as special without the people. The staff is always so warm and welcoming and I think that's a big part of why I keep coming back.
