How to actually wash your hair for a clean scalp + healthy lengths 🫧 Note: wash your hair as often as your scalp needs it. If your scalp gets oily quickly, washing daily or every other day is completely fine. Dermatologists actually recommend washing based on how quickly your hair gets oily or dirty, and people with straight, oily hair may need to shampoo daily. 1. Shampoo your scalp, not your lengths.
Your scalp produces sebum, along with accumulating sweat, dead skin cells, styling products and environmental debris. Shampoo is there to remove that buildup, so focus the product and massage on the scalp. The suds running through the lengths while you rinse are usually enough to cleanse them without unnecessarily stripping them. 2. I prefer silicone-free shampoo.
Not because silicones are “bad” they can be excellent conditioning ingredients but because their biggest benefits are on the hair shaft: reducing friction, improving shine and helping protect the hair. I’d rather get those benefits from products designed specifically for the lengths, like conditioner, masks and serums. 3. Double shampoo.
The first wash breaks down oil, styling products and buildup. The second wash actually gives you that properly clean scalp. If the first shampoo barely lathers, that can be a sign there’s a lot to remove. 4. Hair mask every wash and on the lengths only.
Apply it from around the ears downward. For me, conditioning the lengths every wash is non-negotiable. 5. Then conditioner.
Yes, even if you used a mask. A mask and conditioner aren't necessarily interchangeable: I use the mask for deeper conditioning, then conditioner to smooth, detangle and leave the hair feeling slippery and manageable. Conditioner also helps reduce friction and breakage. And remember: clean scalp + conditioned lengths.
You don't have to choose between washing your hair frequently and having healthy lengths. You just need to treat your scalp and your hair like two different things. #haircare #hairtips #healthyhair #hairwashing #glasshair
