These clocks are a symbol created by scientists in 1947 to show how fragile they believe the current state of our civilization is. Midnight doesn’t represent a specific date or event. It’s more like a symbolic threshold. The hands have moved many times over the years, taking into account international relations, climate change, technological development, biological risks, and today even artificial intelligence. And yes, the hands can move backward too - this has happened when the situation in the world became more stable. That’s probably what I like most about the whole idea. It’s a simple but incredibly powerful metaphor. We’re used to thinking about human history as something enormous, stretching across thousands of years, yet here our entire present seems to fit onto one small clock face. By the way, this video turned out a little creepy :) I didn’t originally plan to make it this way, but somewhere in the process I realized that this atmosphere fits the topic a little too well. #DoomsdayClock #edit #History #Humanity #Future
