POV: you receive a call for help and find an old, malnourished dog stuck in the mud and too weak to get up on his own

This old boy was found lying in the mud in an orchard alongside a busy highway. He is severely underweight, malnourished, suffering from significant hair loss, and injured to the point that he was too weak to get himself up. Thankfully, a passerby noticed him and stopped to make sure he was still alive. They called it in, and I responded and got him safely out of there. He was taken directly to an emergency vet for evaluation and treatment. Unfortunately, I don’t have any further updates on him at this time. Please send this sweet old man all the good thoughts you have and cross your fingers that whatever is going on with him can be treated and that he pulls through. 🥺🤞🏼 And before the comments come… yes, I muzzle-wrap dogs I pick up, especially when they’re injured. This isn’t because I assume a dog is aggressive. It’s because any animal with teeth can bite when they’re scared, stressed, or in pain, especially when there could be internal injuries or something going on that I can’t see. And some dogs simply don’t like being handled or picked up. A muzzle wrap is a simple, temporary precaution that helps protect me while allowing me to safely help the animal in front of me. I would rather take that small precaution than risk getting bitten when I’m trying to save a life. Now let’s just hope this old guy gets the second chance he deserves. 🐾 You did your part, buddy.
