Flies circling your food. Gnats appearing out of nowhere and wasps showing up start cooking outside. Few things can ruin a normal day faster. But before you reach for an expensive product, watch what I'm about to build using a plastic bottle and four ordinary ingredients you probably already have at home. To start, we'll need one empty plastic container. I'm using a water bottle, but you can use a soda bottle or another similar plastic bottle you already have at home. Take a utility knife and carefully make your first cut approximately three quarters of the way up the bottle. Go slowly because we want the cut reasonably even. And don't throw that upper piece away. It might look like leftover plastic right now, but we're going to need it later. And without it, this trick won't work the same way. Now grab a pair of scissors because we're going to modify that upper section a little more. Take the part with the bottle cap and cut across it just before the curved section begins, removing the narrow neck and cap area. Once you're finished, you'll have a wider funnel-shaped piece with openings on both ends. Set that piece aside for now. We're going to return to it after preparing everything else. Comment below with your city. Let's see where everyone's watching from. Now grab ordinary cooking oil. Nothing fancy, just the type of oil you normally have in your kitchen. Pour a small amount into the container. About one finger's width is enough. Now comes our second ingredient, vinegar. You can use the vinegar you normally have at home. Measure approximately one tablespoon and pour it directly into the container with the oil. It might look strange because the liquids don't immediately blend together, but that's completely fine. Set the vinegar aside because now we're adding something almost everyone keeps beside the kitchen sink. Dish soap. Any ordinary dish soap will do. Measure one full tablespoon and add it directly into the container with everything else. That's it. You don't need half a cup or some enormous quantity. One tablespoon is enough for what we're preparing. Comment yes if you're going to try this at home. Now take a spoon or small mixing tool and begin combining everything thoroughly. At first, you'll see the oil separating from the other liquids, so continue stirring, move around the bottom and along the sides, bringing everything toward the center. As the dish soap gets incorporated, you'll notice the consistency and appearance changing. We're almost ready, but don't use it yet. Remember that upper piece of plastic I told you not to throw away? Grab it now. Turn it upside down so the wider section faces upward and the smaller opening points downward. Carefully place it inside the larger bottom section of the bottle. Look at the shape we've created. The upper piece has transformed into a funnel leading directly toward the liquid below. Once inside, the funnel opening makes finding the exit more difficult. If it contacts the soapy liquid, it can become trapped there. Now I can finally show you exactly why we've been doing all of this. This simple bottle is a homemade trap intended to attract certain common flies and other insects looking for food, instead of simply trying to chase them around your kitchen patio or barbecue area.
