Is your kitchen countertop space a premium resource? If you’re like me, the appliances, the stack of mail I need to sort through, the knife set, spice rack…they’re all fighting for valuable countertop space and I end up with a mess. 🥴 So this SUPER easy scrap wood project is a great way to add a little more surface space to kitchen without sacrificing any more countertop. 🙌 It’s week three of Scrap Wood Summer and I hope you’ve been finding some fun ways to put your scraps to work. @Houseful o Need some extra storage in the kitchen but can't afford to sacrifice any more valuable countertop space? I've got a solution. Grab some 1x6s and a scrap dowel. The dowel is optional. Then take some quick measurements around your range controls. That way you know how long to cut these pieces so that the project will fit around the stove. So this shelf is basically made of two sides and a top. And because I didn't want stuff to be falling off the edge, I drilled some holes to add a rail across the front, which is what the dowel is for. But you can totally skip that if you want. After staining, screw the shelf together with a few pocket holes and don't forget to add the rail. Now this other useless space above the stove can be put to good use and your favorite spices and oils are within arms reach when cooking. So it's a win-win. Plus now the scrap pile is just a little bit smaller. Grab the full tutorial plus more scrap wood project ideas over on woodshopdiaries.com
