this might be controversial but I can make smaller with and so can you after. so all my wide face girls listen in. welcome back to your favorite series how to not suck at makeup! day 5 where I show you that actually make a big difference in your makeup skills. because trust me girl, I have been there. this concept that's huge in Chinese beauty is called facial folding degree. and the easiest way to understand it is with a piece of paper. imagine this is your face. you have the front of your face in the center and then the two sides. when everything sits flat like this, it looks narrower. but watch what happens when I fold the sides back. suddenly the whole thing looks narrower. that is essentially what a higher facial folding degree does. and obviously I can't fold my actual face in real life, but I can manipulate where your eye thinks that fold happens. and that's where highlighter comes in. thank you Ofra. most tutorials will tell you to highlight along the cheekbones, but if you have a wider face like me, you can actually emphasize the width. so instead, I bring my highlighter in closer to the center of my cheek and almost vertically. same face, no contour added, but this side visually looks more 3 dimensional. so next time you do your highlighter, don't just think about where you want to glow. you can literally use light to reshape how your face looks. you're welcome.
