This quantum computer chip is powered by a diamond, runs at room temperature, and can be plugged into a wall outlet. A German startup called SaxonQ, SaxonQ, just built the first diamond-based quantum computer with more than ten qubits. Let me explain. In a normal diamond, every atom is carbon, but occasionally a nitrogen atom takes carbon's place, sitting next to an empty gap in the diamond structure. And that trapped nitrogen has that acts like a tiny magnet. A laser resets it to a known starting position and microwave pulses steer it from there. That's the qubit. See, a regular computer bit is either a one or a zero. A qubit can be both, which is why quantum computers can check thousands of combinations in a single calculation. But getting these defects where you want them almost never works. Their fix was implanting sulfur atoms alongside the nitrogen, which donated a spare electron and pushed far more of them into a usable state. The full machine slides into a standard server rack with no cryogenics and no cooling infrastructure. Report a 99.98% accuracy single qubit operations, which is comparable to results from IBM.
