My best travel hack? I lie about when I’m coming home. I tell people I’m getting home a day (or two) later than I actually am. Because I learned the hard way that even the BEST trips drain me and going straight from travel mode into workouts, work, responsibilities and everybody needing something from me is the fastest way to burnout. So now I have a system. Here’s 5 things I do after EVERY trip to get my life back together without burning myself out: 1. I build in a buffer day✨ I schedule one full day between getting home and going back to work. No appointments. No obligations. Nothing anyone needs me for. 2. I tell everyone I’m coming home a day or two later✨ That extra invisible day is SACRED AF. Nobody is expecting me. Nobody is making plans with me. I get to quietly put my life back together. 3. I don’t work out✨ This one is especially hard for me because I love getting right back into my workout routine. But my reset day IS part of my routine. Travel is physically exhausting no matter how much you loved the trip. Regardless, my body gets a recovery day. 4. I follow my post-travel reset checklist✨ I literally have it saved in my phone, in chat, AND printed out on actual paper. When travel life and real life collide, decision fatigue is REAL. I already know exactly what needs to happen to get my house, schedule and routines back online. 5. The suitcase gets completely unpacked + ALL laundry gets started before bed✨ Non-negotiable. I refuse to live out of a half-unpacked suitcase for the next seven business days. By bedtime, the trip is officially OVER. Yes, even if I get home at 1:00am. Because here’s what I’ve learned: You don’t need to recover from vacation for three weeks. You need a system for transitioning back into your real life. My routines don’t just keep me productive. They keep me from burning the fuck out. 🖤 If you want my post-travel reset checklist to use as a starting point for making your own, let me know in the comments or DM me and I’ll send you mine. 🖤
